Once you book your session with me, I will e-mail you with additional information for your newborn session, but below is a brief list of FAQ’s:
• WHEN DO NEWBORN PHOTO SESSIONS TAKE PLACE?
Newborn sessions are ideally scheduled between 5-12 days. Newer babies are much more tolerant of being posed and moved around than a 3 or 4 week old. After two weeks of age, babies start to stretch out and are more likely to become disturbed when we attempt to position them. Colic and baby acne are also issues that can begin to surface after the first weeks of life, which can greatly affect the success of the session. Most of the adorable newborn shots you see here on the website were done with newborns 14 days old or younger. Special circumstances, such as premie and NICU babies may be photographed later. If your full term baby is older than 3 weeks, I recommend a baby milestone session (6-12 months).
Newborn sessions are generally scheduled Monday – Thursday mornings at around 10 am.
• WHY SHOULD I BOOK BEFORE BABY IS BORN?
Newborn sessions should be scheduled BEFORE your baby is born to confirm availability. I take a limited amount of newborn sessions a month. I always make sure to leave spots available for pre-booked sessions.
• HOW DO I BOOK A SESSION IF I’M NOT SURE WHEN BABY WILL BE BORN?
No worries… I tentatively place newborn sessions on my calendar close after the due date, but schedule the actual session date and time once baby is born. Please let me know as soon as baby arrives and we will select the session date.
If you do not contact me within that first week, I cannot guarantee availability before the 2 week mark, so please contact me sooner. I always try to leave availability for my newborns, but I do have other session scheduled in advance.
• HOW LONG DOES A SESSION LAST?
While my goal is to create amazing photos of your new baby, baby and mom’s comfort is of prime importance. Babies have delicate specialized needs that require additional time. We will take breaks as needed to feed, burp and calm baby. I do not rush the session, I let baby take as many breaks as needed. Baby’s comfort and safety is my number one priority.
In order to get the most out of your newborn session, we will need baby to be in a nice deep sleep, so that I can perfect & change poses without disturbing baby. Getting baby into all those adorable poses you’ll love take a lot of time. Please expect the session to last between 2 to 4 hours.
• WHERE DOES THE SESSION TAKE PLACE?
Sessions take place in my home studio located in Great Neck, Long Island, NY.
(in Nassau County, about 25 min from NYC)
I currently am NOT offering on-location / in home newborn sessions.
• CAN PARENTS & SIBLINGS BE IN A FEW SHOTS?
Yes! A few of our Newborn Packages include parent & sibling photos. If sibling are being brought to the studio, please be sure there is an additional adult at all times to be responsible for the children. We will take the sibling with newborn and family photos at the beginning of the session.
Due to the nature of a newborn session, I kindly request for older children to be taken home or out once those photos are completed. Older sibling will become restless, make noise and add stress to mom. Additionally, the studio is not set to handle and entertain older children.
Please expect the session to take longer if sibling poses are included.
• WHAT IF MY BABY WILL BE HAVING A CIRCUMCISION?
I will wait a minimum of 3 days after the circumcision to allow baby to heal before doing the session.
If baby is being circumcised at 8 days, it is preferable to do the session before that.
• IS THERE ANYTHING I NEED TO BRING?
My studio is fully equipped with just about everything needed to make your newborn session a success! I provide all props & setups. I will provide you with a session prep guide after your session is booked to be sure you come fully prepared.
